The perception of aging in place is evolving, with individuals increasingly prioritizing an active lifestyle and engagement in daily activities. They are taking charge of their healthcare by seeking experiences that enable them to enjoy the freedom of an active life, facilitated by “connected” utilities that support mobility.
Currently, mobility assistance is often represented by cumbersome and inefficient walkers, which can stigmatize and impede the lives of those requiring support. Our solution—Pedestrian Assistive Technology (PAT)—is a consumer-oriented mobility platform designed to empower our aging population and individuals with mobility challenges to lead vibrant social lives. The sleek and attractive ROVA not only enhances mobility but also helps individuals retain their dignity and maintain their social engagements.
Our approach focuses on iterative learning through observation and prototyping. We analyze user flow within various environments, consider multiple usage scenarios, and create rapid prototypes for testing. This methodology enables us to gain valuable insights into what works effectively and what requires refinement.
